General Information
The Mansfield University School Library program is unique in its approach. Not only can you study from home via the Internet according to your schedule, but you will also benefit from the experience of school library practitioners who have designed the courses and will facilitate your learning in online classes no larger than 24 students in Fall and Spring semesters, 36 in the summer session. While other library science programs educate students to become a librarian capable of working in any type of library, this program focuses solely on training teachers to become school library media specialist.
Beginning Fall 2009, 12 partial scholarships will be made available via a federal IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) grant called Building Leader scholarships. Students may begin to submit applications immediately to begin coursework on August 31, 2009, the start of the Fall semester. These 12 new scholarship students may take up to two courses for four semesters (Fall 09, Spring 10, Summer 10, and Fall 10), not to exceed 22 credits.
New recipients (Fall 2009) will be able to complete 22 credits of the 33 or 35-credit Master of Education degree with an opportunity to earn school library certification. In the event that Mansfield receives another IMLS scholarship grant, recipients may reapply under the new grant to complete the degree and school library certification.
Scholarship recipients must first be admitted to the School Library & Information Technologies graduate program. To ensure a seat in a Fall class, it is recommended that you apply for admission to Mansfield University at the same time that you apply for a Building Leaders Scholarship.
