"Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program"

An Institute of Museum and Library Services Federal Grant Award

Scholarships at 50 and 75 Percent Tuition Reduction

The scholarships reduce the tuition by 50 or 75 percent. Scholarship funds may be used through the Fall 2010 semester when the three-year IMLS grant program ends.

Participants of the scholarship program are certificated teachers seeking a Master of Education in School library & Information Technologies degree from Mansfield University and earn school library media certification, whether in Pennsylvania or their home state.

The scholarships are designed to recruit male teachers or teachers from diverse ethnic backgrounds who are located beyond commutable distance of a graduate library science program and who work in under-served, high-need communities. Candidates who recruit a principal or other school administrator to enroll in LSC 6600 School Library Advocacy for Administrators received higher consideration.

School Library & Information Technologies Program

The School Library & Information Technologies Graduate Program began in Fall 2000 to offer certified teachers a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree, while simultaneously preparing them to become certificated school library media specialists. The completely online program is accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the Middle States Commission of Higher Education, and nationally recognized as a NCATE-AASL Reviewed & Approved School Library Media Education Program. More information can be found at:

http://library.mansfield.edu/welcome.asp

If you are a certified teacher in Pennsylvania, successful completion of this program and required PRAXIS tests will enable you to add library science K-12 certification to your teaching credentials. The program also has reciprocity in 45 other states for school library certification.

Teachers accepted into Mansfield’s School Library & Information Technologies program are required to complete the 32 to 35 credits Master’s degree program. Scholarship students are expected, but not required, to complete the program in three years. Any courses not completed by Building Leaders Scholarship students by the end of the scholarship program (December 2010) will need to be fully paid by the student.
